My name is Gabriela Awad and I am a textile artist based in New York, NY.

I graduated from Wellesley College in May 2023 with a B.A. in Studio Art and Middle Eastern Studies. While my work is primarily weaving-based, I have a multi-disciplinary background in textile, sculpture, printmaking and design. I am currently a candidate for a Masters of Fine Arts in Fine Arts at Parsons School of Design. 

I am particularly interested in the tension between tradition and present; I often seek to integrate analog and digital practices together. Through this practice, I am interested in documenting the responses between methodologies. My work is largely built upon an examination of the textile-based practices of South West Asia, particularly Lebanon. I hope to create a contemporary, intercultural expanse in which the motifs and decorations of the Levant may inhabit. In doing so, I work to confront ideas of family, loss and diaspora. This action subsequently serves as a form of documenting or archiving my own personal and familial histories.
